Home Sweet Casa

Our beautiful balcony!

We have arrived in Baños de Agua Santa and are really enjoying it!  It is a great town with a laid back atmosphere and beautiful surroundings. We’d heard great things about Baños but were a little skeptical that it was too good to be true. So far, we have not been disappointed. We’ve found some great food (grilled trout anyone?) and it is small enough (and safe enough) to walk from end to end in about 20 minutes.

Before we arrived, we had booked a hostel (Hostel Princesa Maria) for a couple of nights, figuring we’d find a new place to stay once we had a look around. Well, after just one night, we fell in love with this hostel and booked it for the next two weeks (after which we’ll move into the housing at the place we’ll be volunteering at).   It is a family run, very well-kept and spacious hostel. It is also very reasonably priced -$7 per person for a double bed w/private bathroom. We stayed in a room that was nice last night but, since we’ll be staying for 2 weeks, we were able to move into a room with a balcony for the same price!

Nuestro Cuarto!

One of our favorite parts is the garden outside.  We’re able to use the shared kitchen to make breakfast and start our days in these beautiful surroundings.

For those of you following along with the Spanish word of the day – Today’s is cascadas – waterfalls! This cascada overlooks Baños.

PS – so far no sign of any activity from the volcano, but tomorrow we’re hoping to take a hike and get a glimpse of it!
