Location: 40 minutes outside of Mindo in the Cloud Forest.
Date of Stay: March 2012 (1 night)
Cost:  Price varies based on people: We had 3 people in a room so it was $97 pp for private bath/3 meals included.

This was our big splurge when Abby’s mom was visiting Ecuador. It was definitely a splurge but we felt it was worth the cost. The lodge is beautiful and way up in the cloud forest. They tout a geodesic dome that looks impressive from the pictures. When you’re there, you can’t really tell what it is because of all the plants surrounding it. But, the dining room was in there and it offered great views for all the tables which was nice. Our room was in the bamboo house and really fun. We walked up a spiral staircase to a small deck and the door to our room was on the deck. you walk in and there are 4 beds (3 single, 1 double). We had a small kitchen area with a sink, filtered water and a hot water heater. We also had a small sitting area with 2 chairs and a coffee table. If you walk out the back of the room, there was a beautiful octagon deck with a patio table/chairs and gorgeous views of the cloud forest.

The lodge had hummingbird feeders all over which had a huge array of hummingbirds constantly attacking the sugar water.  They had about 20 trails that went all over the area. The trails were all very short (none over a mile), but with so much flora and fauna to look at, they were a good length. They weren”t particularly difficult but when it went up or down, it was straight up or straight down. The lodge provided rain boots and walking sticks, both very, very necessary when hiking.

To get there, we had to hire a truck to take us up there. I think it cost $25 on the way up and $28 on the way down so it’s expensive but a beautiful drive!
